A Software Engineering Major’s Experiences with Macquarie University

Known as one of the most beautiful cities in the world, Sydney never fails in lifting to the expectations of those that want to experience living in a big multicultural city.

As for students that wish to study abroad, it is said that universities in Sydney is one of their most considered options. With that being said, we have received a testimonial from our own Malaysian student, Trideep Lal Das who is currently studying in Macquarie University, majoring in Software Engineering.

Ranked among the top 2 percent of universities in the world, Macquarie University is considered one of Australia’s best universities, producing graduates that are among the most sought after professionals in the world. The environment in the Macquarie University is what Trideep loves most because it helps him relax and reduce stress after long hours of lectures. Also, the university departments are equipped with world class facilities and infrastructures and are constantly updated with digital technologies so that it can assist students in their research discoveries and brings the best out of them.

If you want to live off campus, it is not necessarily a bad choice either, as public transport can be as convenient as living on-campus. From Trideep’s experience, he enjoys a ten minutes’ walk to the Sydney metro station in which the train can drop him off at Macquarie University station. For your information, Macquarie University is the only university in Australia which has a train station on campus. AUD$20 is what he spends on his weekly transport, which is very economical.

As for his own weekly expenses, he spends around AUD$25 to AUD$40 on groceries each week. He prefers to cook on his own as it is a healthier and cheaper option. Weekly expenses vary for each student depending on how you set your budget in accordance to your allowance.

What he enjoys most is that when he is working on his assignments, he gets the chance to meet new friends in the student hub and help each other in their work. He added that the students and staffs at Macquarie University are very friendly and helpful. So, if you have problems with your studies, don’t be afraid to approach them because they will surely lend you a helping hand!

Macquarie University offers ASEAN scholarship worth AUD$10,000 per year throughout the whole duration of studies which is a good incentive to offset the living costs in Sydney. Moreover, there are real world learning opportunities for international students across Australia and globally available via their multi award-winning PACE (Professional & Community Engagement) program.

Lastly, Trideep highly recommends students to get assistance from an education agent in the process of applying to overseas institutions as students are inexperienced when it comes to this matter. The whole application process could be streamlined and made easier with the help of the education agent. For his application process, he successfully applied to Macquarie University through AECC Global, a trusted education service, which helped to ease his burden in that period.
